Artist Application

Artistic Philosophy – The artist best suited for a residency is one with solid artistic and technical skills along with a unique personal vision which is demonstrated through original work and presentation.

In addition to the above, education and teaching experience are desirable.

Artistic quality and professionalism of the artist, including regular professional accomplishments are determined as follows:

  • visual – minimum 2 exhibitions per year over last 3 years with reviews
  • literary – regular publishing for last 3 years with reviews
  • performing – regular public performances for last 3 years with reviews

Complete the application below. In addition to completing the application below we ask that you submit the requested items as follows to apply@williamjamesassociation.org:

1. Résumé: A professional résumé should include education, professional training, teaching experience, art related work experience, performances, exhibits, awards, professional memberships and any pertinent information. Résumé should be no longer than 2 pages.

2. Samples of your Work: enter a link below or send samples to apply@williamjamesassociation.org and clearly title your email “Artist Application Materials, LAST NAME, FIRST NAME”. Label images with your name, title, medium, dimensions, and date or include a single page pdf image list with the requested label information for each work sample submitted. Maximum: 10 images, 10 pages of writing, 1-3 music samples, each no more than 1 minute in length (not to exceed 5 minutes total between all sample provided). Maximum file size: 1 MB. Preferred file types: pdf (documents), jpg (artwork), and mp4 (music samples). Video samples are not accepted at this time.

3. Class Description: provide a half-page describing what you are offering to teach, include objectives and materials needed.

4. You may also submit reviews, letters and evaluations from previous teachings experiences. Submission of this documentation constitutes an understanding that the William James Association reserves the right to duplicate these materials for review purposes.

Submit your Résumé, Workshop Description, and Supporting Materials (reviews, letters and evaluations) requested above as a single pdf or word document to apply@williamjamesassociation.org and clearly title your document: Supporting Materials, LAST NAME, FIRST NAME, Date of Submission (EX: Supporting Materials_Reyes, Joey_111320.pdf). Please follow the guidelines above for maximum pages, file size and quantity.
